This Day
Hey maybe we can find the strength to turn off the tv
and shake off those static gods that suffocate our abilities
I turn around and time has gone to the places that I’ve been
It makes me wonder where my friends have gone
and why I never let them in
Where are the righteous ones? they said that they’d be here
It seems the clock is running down in a world consumed with fear
the line has been clearly drawn on the very ground we stand
I feel the rising of a bloody dawn, and my soul is in demand
I can feel the thunder, I can taste the rain
Can’t you tell, it’s in the air
it’s a crazy world out there
and time belongs to no man
there’s not a woman alive not meant to feel the shame
and every child on this earth goes unprotected
won’t you be my friend and take my hand
and get me through this day
cause everything I feel right now is blowing me away
Did you see the towers fall? Did you hear those people scream?
and everything that went before was only just a dream
A scrap of someone’s uniform is blowing down the street
the winds of change have picked it up
and it’s settled at my feet
We all kneeled and prayed for grace but truly, in the end
We saw that the evil face belonged to us, not them
so I will reach across this line, I’ll take a chance and say
I know that we can make this climb if you take my hand this day
